The Native American skull tattoo is popular among men of American Indian descent. That’s because they often gravitate toward nature and heritage-inspired designs. This tattoo design is perfect for men who identify as Native American.

At about a sixth of its length it was bent at a right angle and, in the shorter arm, three to five needles were affixed. The needles were laid on the skin and driven in with blows of a wooden hammer at the rate of 90 to 120 taps per minute. Soot from resinous wood such as spruce was used for pigment and rubbed into the wounds, causing the flesh to rise in great welts, which sometimes became infected. Today, you can only see traces of the indelible art in all of its splendor among the Kalinga and maybe one or two other groups living in the area.

Horse Skull Tattoo

It serves as a stark reminder of mortality and the impermanence of life. The skull’s inclusion in this design infuses it with an undeniable element of mortality, acting as a powerful memento mori – a reflection on the inevitability of death. The American traditional tattoo style, often referred to as “old school” or “traditional,” has deep roots in the history of tattooing. It emerged in the early 20th century and is characterized by bold outlines, a limited color palette, and iconic imagery.

Bull Skull Tattoo

This style has stood the test of time, and its enduring popularity speaks to its timeless appeal. TattoosWin.Com is a site where you can find tons of tattoo meanings and symbolism, various tattoo designs and reviews of tattoo equipment. Detailed meanings of different symbols in different cultures are available here.

Death Moth Skull Tattoo

In this exploration, we delve into the symbolism behind this gothic tattoo design and uncover the rich layers of meaning it holds. This skull Indian headdress tattoo is unique from the rest, as here, the skull is lacking its jaw bone. If you want to make a statement with your tattoo, then you should definitely choose this different idea. Additionally, the tattoo has a very dark appearance, due to the all-black ink colouration. Many people would also prefer getting inked with such a design on their chest or shoulder.

They require a lot of skill and patience to execute properly, but the finished product is definitely worth it. Just because skulls are serious parts of the body doesn’t mean they have to be serious tattoos! Keep the typical elements of the skull for identification—the shape, eyes, and teeth—but be playful with the lines to add a sense of whimsy. To play on the creepy aspect of skull tattoos, try stacking a bunch together in your design. This gives a catacomb-esque feeling and puts the focus on the overall piece rather than the skulls themselves. It’s an area with a lot of nerve endings, which makes the tattooing process more painful than other parts of the body.

This imagery suggests that some knowledge transcends the boundaries of life and death, echoing the notion of eternal wisdom. While Indian skull tattoos embody strength and valor, they also carry a poignant reminder of the challenges and hardships endured by Indigenous communities. The historical backdrop of violence, displacement, and loss of ancestral lands is etched into the very essence of these tattoos. They tell the story of resilience in the face of adversity, a testament to the enduring spirit of Native American people. While these may appear to be scary tattoo designs on the surface, they are more of a tribute to the past than anything else. These tattoo designs represent history, dominance, persistence, power, strength, and the warrior mentality.

It’s a simple yet detailed tattoo of an eagle bird skull drawn on one of the arms of the wearer. The slight shading work only in a few places is making the skull tattoo design look perfect. The depth in the eye socket, the blackness of the beak, and everything in the tattoo has been drawn in black and grey ink with extreme care. Neo traditional tattoo designs are one of the most enticing tattoo styles out there.

Here, the skull seems to have a rose blooming from it, or the skull appears to be part of the skull—the shapes help connect the two contrasting objects naturally. The hand is a highly visible part of the body, and choosing it as the location for a tattoo is a decision loaded with significance. Unfortunately, the knowledge of Native American tattoos faced challenges in preservation. Early European scholars and explorers who encountered Native American tribes did not show significant interest in documenting their tattoo practices. As a result, much of what we know today is derived from a few scattered texts, often based on stories and memories rather than firsthand experiences.

The tattoo design is of a flying eagle holding a skull on its talons. Eagle tattoo designs can be of symbols of eagles or even feathers that mean good luck, vision, freedom, power, religion, or related to God. The designs can be of a skull of eagle and snake tattoo or flying eagle birds tattoo with a skull with the words ‘fly higher’ and more. Many people get them on one or the other hand because arms can be the best body part to show the tattoo to the world. The heart can represent love, life, or emotion, while the skull symbolizes mortality. This design can express the idea that love and emotion are as intrinsic to human life as death itself.

The two-bed, two-bath home sits on a quarter-acre lot, and Putman boasted the gardens and terraces as a draw for potential buyers.

Plus, it's a welcoming way to greet guests, providing hospitality before they even cross the threshold. Tyler O'Brien of Agave Custom Homes, who was responsible for the curb appeal of House Beautiful's 2021 Whole Home in the Texas Hill Country, wanted the landscaping to flow seamlessly onto the attached 30-acre nature preserve. So all the plants he chose for the landscaping were native to the environment. It's a decision that helps ensure your plants won't die on you and makes a high-maintenance care routine a thing of the past.

54 Detached Garage Ideas for Personalized Spaces in 2024

modern garage design

From artist studios and home offices to tranquil retreats and bonus living spaces, detached garages stand ready to metamorphose based on individual needs and aspirations. Whether it’s a retreat, a workshop, or a sanctuary, these detached garage ideas are the embodiment of architectural liberation – an invitation to dream beyond the blueprint. The perfect modern garage plan can add the wow factor to your home or property! The foundation of any modern garage design is choosing the style you want to match your home or building. Once you open the doors to your garage, you need to show the world an organized space. If you open the doors and the neighbors see a disaster area, you’ve ruined your curb appeal.

Inside LACMA’s plans to share its collection with a new Las Vegas museum: ‘I’m a West Coast booster’

That could be your prized luxury vehicles, a deluxe cabinet system, or your ultra-tidy walls filled with hanging items that are neatly organized. Make your walls and ceiling space work harder by having slatwall panels and overhead storage racks installed. Each of these provides a wealth of versatile storage space that keeps your floor empty and open, which is just what we want for that tidy minimalist garage look. It’s not just about keeping your car safe indoors anymore; it’s about providing comfort even when it’s parked outside. Amplify your parking game with a structure that provides the best of both worlds.

Let’s talk about your garage remodel project.

modern garage design

As design developed into the 21st century, architects stopped putting garages side by side in designs that offer more than one bay. This layout features an iron brown door between two symmetrical garages using white roller shutters. A custom wood garage door offers a unique design that lets you choose the wood type and glass, as well as the paint and finish. A double car lift leaves more open floor space in this garage with a minimalist design style. Every vehicle gets its space, standing proudly beneath the expansive canopy. The high ceiling not only gives a majestic feel but also offers ample room for storage or even an elevated workspace.

🌟 The Rise of the Modern Garage with Living Quarters Design

It won’t mean much if you can’t actually see most of those upgrades because of excess clutter, however. Kondo often gets credit for kickstarting the minimalist movement a few years ago with her bestselling The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up book. In fact, The Minimalists were out there promoting the minimalist lifestyle shortly before her. “Trimming the fat” from the contents of your garage by getting rid of unessential items allows the room to have more open space and be used more efficiently for storage. After a while, it’s easy to become accustomed to keeping clutter around. Unfortunately, this results in a room that’s far less functional than it should be.

What is a minimalist garage?

Modern, minimalistic architecture often uses the black and white combination to complement any landscape, including this verdant green lawn with trees surrounding it. This combination of colors lets the homeowner use a black or white garage door to complement the house’s overall design and palette. If your garage currently resembles the picture below – a messy disarray with a broken door, let our list of 35 great ideas for garages inspire your remodeling.

Yes, a detached garage can be converted into a living space, such as a guest suite, home office, or studio. However, this conversion usually involves significant work, including insulation, wiring, plumbing, and potentially modifying the structure to meet residential building codes. Consult with local building authorities to ensure compliance and safety. Additionally, ensure that any conversion aligns with your local zoning ordinances and that you obtain the necessary permits. What’s better than a sleek, detached garage with a sharp black-and-white exterior? Not only does this palette lend an air of sophistication, but it seamlessly blends with any architectural style, from classic to contemporary.

Let’s talk innovation and style for your detached garage. Enter the sectional garage door—a contemporary blend of functionality and design. Composed of panel sections connected by hinges, it lifts seamlessly, providing smooth access to your man cave or workshop. But it’s not just about utility; it’s about aesthetics too. These window panels are more than mere decorative elements; they’re gateways to inspiration, letting in nature’s brilliance while ensuring your space remains airy and vibrant.

The small glass panes add interest and light the interior of the garage. When you design your home or remodel it, consider your garage a separate project and start with a workable design from these ideas. Built-in shelves, under-stair storage, and multifunctional furniture can help keep the living quarters organized and clutter-free. The slatwall grooves provide the horizontal lines (lots of them, in fact!) and help the space look bigger. Thin slatwall strips that are a different color from the slatwall panel color used for the larger amount of wall space add tasteful contrast.

🎨 Design Ideas to Inspire Your Project

On the other hand, your storage inside it may have gotten out of hand. Have you reached the point where you do not even know what you stored inside it? If so, cleaning it out completely, then tackling its redesign works best. When you design your home or remodel it, consider your garage a separate project. A new home can start with a workable design that offers built-ins for tools, camping gear, and other items.

When looking for additional garage space, you want to get the most out of every square foot in a plan. This garage (plan , above) is only 742 sq ft but it can really hold a lot. You can store three cars on the bottom floor, each with their own separate door, each 9 ft by 8 ft. Our team will provide you with all of the supplies you need to construct your modern-style garage.

Dive into the rich tapestry of detached garage ideas and redefine how you shelter your prized rides. A seamless entry and exit without the hassle of maneuvering or waiting for doors to open and close is what we all dream of. Enter the drive-through garage, the pinnacle of detached garage ideas for those who crave efficiency wrapped in style. Featuring no doors, this garage design is the epitome of uninterrupted flow, allowing you to glide in and out with ease. In the realm of architectural innovation, where functionality meets creative expression, the canvas of possibilities expands beyond the confines of the main dwelling. Welcome to the realm of detached garage ideas—an arena where imagination takes the wheel, and practicality finds its own lane.

Imagine rolling up to your detached garage, only to have the modern roll-up garage door smoothly glide upwards, revealing your sanctuary. These aren’t the roll-ups of yesteryears; we’re talking cutting-edge design combined with smooth operation. Enjoy your morning brew or late-night thoughts in style, looking out over your domain. A perfect blend of functionality and flair, this garage idea is for those who believe in making a statement. Manually lifting or closing the garage door can strain its chains.

Many schools don't have the resources for makerspaces or 3D printers, so in order to make these essential STEAM skills more widely available, PrinterForm transforms any standard inkjet or laser printer into a 3D printer. We will build upon this prototype, as we add more forms, more features for teachers, and more educational resources for CAD modeling, with the hope of a public release sometime in the spring. We will be integrating user feedback into our next iteration, so try it out, and let us know what you think by filling out our feedback form. And if there are any teachers out there who are interested in using this in your classrooms, please let us know. History of the BDW

While “the Brown Design Workshop is used a lot by particularly engineering, visual art and architecture students at Brown,” the BDW is working to “publicize to everyone who wants to build,” said BDW Monitor Arjun Khurana ’25. During busy parts of the semester, Laser cutting jobs will be capped at 30 minutes. 3D Printing jobs are capped 6 hours before 10 pm, and 12 hours after 10 pm until closing. If you start a print before 2 pm on a day that the BDW is open, your print will be cancelled by the monitors on opening shift. Unlike many makerspaces at other institutions, which restrict use to students in certain degree programs or classes, the BDW opens its doors to everyone. Students from all walks of life, backgrounds, concentrations, and interests use the space alongside staff, faculty, and even those from the local community.

The Brown Design Workshop is the University’s go-to makerspace where its members can use the vast array of tools and machines to create almost anything they dream up. The intro to the sheet metal workshop teaches member all of the non-power sheet metal working tools by building a pencil box. The tools taught in the workshop are the foot shear, finger brakes, notcher, metal shears, bench punch, hand punch, and riveters. Overall, the workshop provides members with a better sense of the metal working tools available and trains them how to use the tools effectively to complete projects.

Soho House Chicago Expert Review Fodors Travel

soho house chicago

Occupying a former belt factory in the West Loop, this private members club's hotel feels like a bohemian artist's loft. Artists, architects, and musicians lounge in the chandelier-decked lobby, which slings cold-pressed juices by day and craft cocktails at night. The contemporary-art collection, featuring pieces by the likes of Damien Hirst, is a draw for art lovers, while foodies appreciate the proximity to Randolph Street restaurants.

Handsome hotel rooms, which are clubby but not cloying, are open to the public. Hotel guests also get access to three on-site restaurants, bar, spa, gym and rooftop pool. In each of the Big rooms is a free-standing tub and walk-in rainforest shower, while all other rooms have a shower only (which is the size of a large closet). Grey tiles on the floor and walls are a nice shift from all-white baths. Toiletries are from Cowshed Spa, linked to all Soho House properties, including the Chicago hotel's spa.

"Top Chef" winner Stephanie Izard's Girl & The Goat (literally around the corner) hasn't slipped out of style since its 2010 opening; on the dinner menu are a mix of raw bar, pig and pork items. Across the street is Au Cheval, which many Chicagoans dub the city's best burger. Tip Enjoy the Chicago-skyline view with food and drink delivered poolside at the rooftop pool. Cowshed Spa is here, like at other Soho House properties, around the globe.

For those properties, we provide real-time rates and availability via a partnership with Booking.com. All three dining venues open to non-members who are hotel guests offer drink menus. The Allis is where you'll find the most exquisite wines as well as craft cocktails with fun flavors, like "Turning Japanese" with its chamomile, lavender, spiced pear and whiskey. The West Loop is hopping and if you're a foodie who has to hit all the best spots then this is your place because everything is a quick walk.

I crave ferociously to hole up in one of the 'medium size' rooms - in truth more capacious than an average British flat - during a harsh Chicago winter. I will dress only to eat at the in-house Pizza East, take boxing classes in the gym's full-sized fighting ring, or have my antlers filed in the Cowshed spa while watching one of the cute retro Fifties TVs. I will brave the cold only for supper at the utterly glorious, serious-about-beer restaurant The Publican. Up on the rooftop is the hotel's 60-foot-long pool flaunting superb Chicago-skyline views.

Outdoor fireplaces and beach-house-type furnishings make this feel more like California than Chi-Town. One nice advantage to checking into a hotel not in downtown Chicago is that there's more square footage in the hotel's footprint. This includes the lobby, where the decor evokes the 1920s and 1930s with exposed-brick walls, plush tufted-back armchair and sofas, an open concept and crystal chandeliers overhead. There's not a single piece of furniture that doesn't look like it came from that time period, too, but that hasn't gotten in the way of folks working on their laptops for hours here. We're always trying to bring you more amazing hotels, more quickly. But not every hotel can immediately connect their reservation system with ours.

Disney Dream Remy Dinner Review

remy disney cruise

If you have younger kids, you can leave them at the It’s A Small World Nursery. Reservations are required for the nursery and there is a fee for sitting there. Ultimately, Remy is a superlative experience, with exquisite attention to detail, quality of ingredients and dishes, plating, and level of attentiveness in the service. Remy is definitely on par with Victoria & Albert’s, and is worth a splurge at least once if you have a special occasion and the budget to justify it.

Replies to “Disney Dream Remy Dinner Review”

From there, you can determine for yourself if Remy lives up to the hype and is worth of becoming a regular Disney Cruise Line experience, or if it’s great, but a one and done. Scott notes that dinner at Lallement’s restaurant in France would cost ~$211/person, which makes $125 a deal by comparison. I can see where he’s coming from, but don’t totally agree for a couple of reasons. First, you have to account for the value of the dinner you’re forgoing aboard Disney Cruise Line, which is built into the cost of the itinerary. Using my $75/person number, that would put Remy at $200/person.

Disney Dream Lounges and Bars

Of course, no dinner at a New Orleans-themed restaurant on a Disney ship is complete without seeing the Bayou princess herself, Tiana. She swings by nightly and gets everyone out of their seats to parade around the restaurant with servers just like a parade through the French Quarter. Depending on which ship you're on, you have the chance to see three different shows inside Animator's Palate. The tasting was expensive at $60 a person, but it was a fun experience. I don’t know that I would repeat it on every cruise, but it might be nice to do it every few years as I’ve read that the menu does change.

On this journey, adult guests make their way throughout the restaurant to sample small plates of Remy’s exquisite cuisine and fine wine. This experience is offered during the early evening on the first day of each cruise and includes six dishes from the restaurant’s season menu, along with wine pairings for each course. The first course, usually blinis with Californian caviar and Champagne is served in Remy’s magnificant wine room with floor-to-ceiling rows of world-class wines.

He is also a fun follow on Instagram, but I should warn you, his food pictures are intoxicating. First, Remy is a fine dining experience, meaning that there is a mandatory dress code and guest age requirement. Guests must be 18 years and over in order to dine at Remy, and those who wish to dine here must be dressed appropriately.

remy disney cruise

As we were brought to our table, the host shared some of the details of the décor (hidden Remy’s) as well as two wines featured in the film Ratatouille being displayed in the wine case. It’s a small and intimate dining room with fantastic views. The chef described the ingredients and how the dessert was invented. I am not normally a Crème Brûlée fan (although my wife is), but I really enjoyed this dessert. This could be frustrating for families with an older teen who aspires to a career in the culinary world or has a love of fine food, but that’s the way it is.

Royal Court Royal Tea

Because DCL has your birth date as part of your boarding documents, there is no fudging on the age requirement. Gratuities are at your discretion, but in general, consider 18% to be the minimum tip for adult dining on DCL. Due to the quality of the attention in this restaurant, many guests will choose to tip more.

Disney Wonder Menus

As we have done in the past, we asked Jerome and the chef to surprise us based on our dietary preferences and allergy restrictions. It is fun not knowing what will be presented for each course. We were both a little undecided at first, so we took a look at the wine menu.

The last course (thank goodness, we were really full at this point) was the Citron. The chef described the hours it took to construct this dessert, including all the steps it took all the way down to making the “skin” of the lemon look correct. Inside the lemon shell (which was some sort of edible chocolate or candied lemon), was a lemon mouse. I loved the presentation of the dessert, but I’m not a huge fan of lemon overall.

The increase may change my mind regarding the additional glasses of Champagne and sparking water, however. We have also brought our own bottle of Taittinger and paid the corking fee, which is less than purchasing 2 glasses of champagne, and I believe that we will do that on our next cruise. Disney Cruise Line describes Remy as “an adult-exclusive restaurant serving fine French fare”.

As we mentioned, each ship has a variety of dining options. Some restaurants are included in your cruise fare, while others can be enjoyed at an additional cost. In addition to the main dining locations, which definitely have a kid-centered vibe to them at times, there are also several adult-exclusive restaurants onboard each of the ships for guests aged 18 and up. Each ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet offers Palo, a luxurious, adults-only restaurant that specializes in Northern Italian cuisine. Palo offers both brunch and dinner, which are both exceptional experiences.

Now, I didn’t take out a pen and paper and write down the name of every type of cheese. I like capturing all of the details, but that seemed a little rude. And my brain is good, but not good enough to remember the names of 10 different cheeses that came in the middle of what ended up being approximately a 10 course meal anyway. And you’ll also get attention from assistant servers, head servers, and more. Our Remy reservation was at 6 pm, and later that night I was wandering the walking path on deck 4, and a chef was out taking his break. Each server has maybe two tables that are their responsibility for the evening, which means you will have as much personal attention, menu-explaining, and story-telling as you want.

Family Cruises: The Ultimate Family Vacation

cruise fun

You can choose from plenty of shore excursion options at each port, so you are sure to find something that interests you. When we are on a cruise, one of the things we love to do is explore the ship. Ships are like a city on the sea and are full of fun things to do. Sometimes you’ll discover things on a ship you may not have read about or been told about.

Celebrity Beyond

Whether you’re traveling with a toddler or a teenager, Royal Caribbean is one of the top family cruise lines around. The cruise line's largest ships are the best Royal Caribbean vessels for kids of all ages, as well as for multigenerational family groups. Even though cruise ships with roller coasters and other bells and whistles get a lot of attention, in reality there are a lot of different cruise ship experiences. Most cruise ships now automatically add a gratuity to bar bills, often in the amount of 18% to 20% of the total. Such automatic gratuities also are becoming more common in ship spas.

Are Cruises Fun? Why Cruising is a Great Vacation

It is a more flexible approach to cruising, as there are no set dining times or dress! Plus, with their "Free at Sea" offer, you can often score a drink package for less than on other cruise lines, paying only for the gratuities. Carnival Panorama is a Vista Class ship that was launched in 2019. Weighing only 133,500 gross tons, she isn't the largest ship in the world; however, there are plenty of fun activities onboard for guests of all ages.

Drink Making Classes

Regardless, they want their ships appeal to all cruisers by packing them full of different fun activities. The first three of those lines dominate the world of big, bustling megaresorts at sea, with vessels that are as much as twice the size of the biggest cruise ships that existed 25 years ago. Carnival hasn't gone quite as big with its ships, for the most part.

Enjoy a special menu of spa type foods, and healthy fare delivered right to your plush lounger. There’s so much to do (or not do) on sea days, that these are often some of the best times on a cruise. While I could list off a lot, here are just a few sea day activities to look forward to. Guest entertainers are brought onto the cruise ship each sailing to entertain the passengers.

It was a 26 minute walk, which was more than double of what I was expecting. Now, I don’t have any issues with walking in port; but, it was HOT in Cozumel when we visited in August. If you’ve sailed on Carnival Mardi Gras or Carnival Celebration, you’ll know exactly what I am talking about here. I will never plan to eat again at Carnival’s buffet, unless I absolutely have to (i.e. it’s my only choice). I figured Carnival Celebration was the best chance for Carnival to prove me wrong; unfortunately, the Lido Marketplace onboard was just as drab as every other Carnival buffet I’ve tried.

Wonder of the Seas

But many first-time cruisers don't know this and write in a hefty tip at the "additional tip" line on bills at cruise ship bars and spas. Be sure to ask if a gratuity already has been included before adding another 15% or 20% to the total. Whether you’re cruising with toddlers, teens, or seniors, fun cruises cater to every age group.

Celebrity Cruises is known for having great service, fine dining and beautiful ship designs. Some other activities on the Anthem of the Seas include indoor roller skating, bumper cars, water slides, rock climbing walls and a skydiving simulator. If you’re someone who enjoys gambling, then you will love the casino onboard the Norwegian Joy. On the Norwegian Joy, the casino is massive and has slot machines, blackjack tables, poker tables and even a high rollers room. Big Chicken, BlueIguanna Cantina and Guy’s Burgers are amazing choices.

Carnival Cruise Line: “The Fun Ships”

While in the past midnight buffets were common, these days you can often find a decadent chocolate buffet being served. While there’s an additional charge for a wine tasting, it’s a great chance to sample different wines and learn, all while on a cruise. Why not try out the drinks and atmosphere at many of the bars on your ship?

I’d also argue that Wonder of the Seas is the most fun ship at sea given how many onboard thrills and activities you can do. You can choose to free jump, or there are also virtual reality headsets that allow you to play games as you jump (such as blocking virtual soccer balls). Either way, it’s unique to be jumping so high while you are on top of a cruise ship.

Ships have spots dedicated to the game, often with multiple tables in a place outside, but with minimal wind so that you can play even when it’s breezy. (Tables are normally located on the pool deck, tucked in a corner.) Just head up and pick up a couple of paddles (which are provided) to play. These days some sections of new cruise ships look more like a mall than a ship. Shopping is a big draw, with a number of stores offering everything from souvenir keychains to high-end expensive watches. If you’ve ever wanted to try a new game, a cruise ship casino is a great place to start. You’ll see the times listed in your ship’s daily schedule, but classes are usually in the morning when the ship is as sea.

Known worldwide for its epic theme parks, Disney offers some of the best family cruises. They are particularly outstanding for those traveling with youngsters. Johnny Rockets, the 1950s-style luncheonette, is always a kid magnet (and parents think it's pretty cool, too).

It is the only way to ensure you won't miss your ship — something that happens to cruisers more often than you would think. For starters, you only have to unpack once, even as you travel from place to place. You also don't have to go hunting for a restaurant every night.

There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a foodie, a relaxation enthusiast, or all of the above. So, whatever your definition of “fun” is, rest assured, it’s waiting for you on the high seas. Well, aside from the captivating destinations and the allure of the open sea, it’s the unforgettable onboard activities.

In the beauty category, there is a beauty bar, where the big attraction is facials. There are also games — because cruise ships are about entertainment, playing and having fun — such as Truth or Dare, as well as an iPad app that lets passengers find their favorite fragrance. For Dior, a favorite event on the celebrity ships is the Master Class, where a master beauty expert does makeovers for guests, as well as talks about day looks and night looks. While port and starboard are two distinct sides of a cruise ship, you will have a similar experience staying on either aboard most closed-loop cruises, or roundtrip cruises.

Few have more experience — or have made more changes — than Starboard Cruise Services, which is an LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton company, and bills itself as the leading global retailer at sea. Earlier this year, Starboard partnered with Virgin Voyages—which closed on a large $550 million capital raise in September—after rival onboard retailer Harding+ exited its contract. However, in terms of new contracts, Harding+, based in the U.K., has been winning in recent years and claims to partner with more cruise operators than Starboard, working with 22 cruise lines versus its rival’s 15.

We’ve taken a step back from that and we’ll be launching pop-ups next month. One of them might be a night out, so you have your dress, handbag and perfume. Or, one of the pop-ups might be, “Let’s go to the beach.” It’s really about rethinking that innovation on board. Currently, she serves on several boards including The American Gem Society, The Jewelers of America, Diamonds Do Good, and is a member of the Twenty-Four Karat Club of the City of New York.

According to Statista, the U.S. is one of the largest cruise markets in the world, with revenues expected to reach almost $31.5 billion by 2020. The projection of revenues in the cruise industry worldwide is $35.5 billion, with the North American market accounting for more than half of the total number of guests globally. Cruise Lines International Association, the largest cruise industry trade association, last month projected 28 million passengers on cruise ships for 2018, on a global basis. It also said demand for cruising has increased 20.5 percent in the last five years. Starboard’s contributions to Carnival’s shopping options include showcasing recognized LVMH brands, exclusive first-at-sea collection offerings, innovative retail concepts, and rich market insights, as Starboard highlights. Hit by everything from the pandemic to supply chain challenges to inflation, the industry has discovered creative ways to appeal to cruise passengers.

We try to make sure that each of the categories has a good, better, best strategy for each of the brands. It’ll have an entry-level price point, a mid-level price point and then a high price point. Our ships sail all over the world, so they may be in the Caribbean for the winter and then Europe for the summer, or they’re in Australia for the winter and Alaska for the summer. Basically we’ve got ships pretty much anywhere in the world and we custom-design the retail offerings to that particular ship in that particular itinerary. In resort fashion, another first at sea is Coradorables, a woman-founded Hawaiian brand made in Honolulu that reflects local culture.

Fashion plays a smaller, but growing role, mostly due to storage constraints, and there have been fashion shows on board, with the designer present to talk about the line. What does work are capsule collections on the accessories front, such as fine jewelry, small leather goods and Swiss timepieces. Some special items include Tag Heuer products that are specially numbered for the ship, or that feature the ship’s logo.

Both sides will have corridors lined with interior cabins (or inside cabins) as well as outside cabins and balcony rooms. Starboard and Onboard Media CEO Lisa Bauer will also serve on the company’s board of directors. A lot of limited-edition things for the 50th birthday merchandise collection that will only be available on Celebration until the end of the year. That collection also featured a special edition Monopoly Carnival-themed game.

Starboard Cruise Services, a division of LVMH, is shifting toward mega ships where overall retail spaces average 8,000 to 10,000 square feet. A great way to remember port and starboard is to go by the number of letters in each word. "Port" has the same number of letters as "left," so it is the left side of the ship. On the other hand, "starboard" has more than four letters, so that must mean that it's "right."
